Passionate about design, art and crafting, Melissa founded The Painted Bird, LLC. in 2011 so that she could continue working as a graphic and website designer at Designsite.com while teaching children in local elementary schools how to craft in the afternoon.
Based out of Fairfield, Ct, The Painted Bird has run after school enrichment programs in many of the elementary schools in the Fairfield for the past six years.
In 1999, Melissa and her husband Michael founded Designsite, a design and marketing communications firm, specializing in branding, website and print design. Prior to Designsite, Melissa worked for DMCD, one of America's leading exhibit design firms, for eight years as a Senior Exhibit Designer. Melissa earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1987.
Melissa served on the board of The Pilot House Special Needs Foundation as Creative Director from 2011 until 2015 and on the Executive Board of the Jennings School PTA from 2007- 2009 as the VP of Communications. Melissa also served on the Executive Board of the Fairfield SEPTA (Special Education Parent-Teacher Association) from 2003 – 2007. Melissa headed committees for Jennings school between 2004- 2010 including: Interior Beautification, Holiday Craft Boutiques and the 5th Grade Moving up Committee. She also Co-Chaired the Jennings Times and Art in the Classroom. Melissa received a National PTA Volunteer Recognition Award in 2010.
Other community positions include Parent Support Group Co-Chair, Early Childhood Center in 2003, Craft Coordinator, Mothers of Preschoolers in 2002 and Children’s Events Coordinator, the Welcome Club of Fairfield and Easton, CT in 2001.
Melissa lives in Fairfield, Ct with her husband Michael and 17 year old twins.
